In general, rental income is taxable.

There is exception. I am happy to explain it to you.

If you rent out your home, partially or the whole house, for less than 15 days during the year, this short-term rental income is tax free.

For example, if your friends or relatives stay at your place for business trip and they want to pay you back the rent, the rental income you received is tax free.

Another example is if you rent out your house to your business for employee recreation for one day, the rent paid by your business as fair market rate is tax deductible but the rental income to yourself is tax free if your house is rented out less than 15 days during the year.

Hope this small tip is good for your tax planning.
